ROD & REEL 2015 Wellington Regional Championships
Ruamahanga River Feb 15th
The Rod & Reel Wellington Regional was contested on the Ruamahanga River on Sunday 15 February in the Wairarapa. Conditions were cool with a brisk south-easterly breeze and grey clouds. There were both occasional showers and, less frequently, the odd spot of sun. This made it difficult to spot fish in the pools and anglers had to vary their approach depending on conditions at the time. Some anglers found pods of small fish, but these were mostly undersize with only a small percentage qualifying. The average size overall was 30 cms, with a catch rate of 49 minutes per fish caught.
Paul Baker won, just one placing point ahead of Steve Brown in second place. Strato Cotsilinis came third. The average size of Paul’s eight fish was 40 cm, while Steve caught ten fish averaging 23 cm.
