FINAL DAY REPOR - 17 September 2006

Hello everyone from the CD-Rods Team.

Well its all over here in Portugal. Last night was the medal ceremony and closing banquet. Its was quite a lot of fun, the boys played well into the morning. They were relived all the pressure was over for a while.

On the last day we did very well in the morning with the team placing 7th for this sesson lifting us to 13 team over all after 4 sessions.

Steve got 3 fish on the Alva for a 3rd in his group, John did real well to get a fish on the Modego to place 2nd in his group, Peter landed 3 fish on the lake for 6th with Neil getting 4 on the other lake for 13th. Craig blanked on the Ceira which was getting harder by the day with the fishing pressure.

One of the Slovaks had all his fish on the lake disqualified giving him a blank after wading in the lake which was disallowed. He had caught a 740mm brown and 3 other fish. This blank would rob him of a medal.

We did not do as well in the afternoon placing 13th team for this session. Neil blanked on the Mondago as did most of his group.  John got 2 fish from the Ceira both on a 18 royal wolf to get a 6th, Steve got one at the Lake for a 12th and Peter 2 at the other Lake for a 15th. Craig got 2 from the Alva for 15th.

Our final placing was 13th in the team results, the Czechs were 1st, France 2nd and Spain 3rd. Other team results of interest, USA 10th, Eng 11th and Australia 18th.

In the individual results John Bell jumped to an impressive 15th overall (out of 103 anglers). The rest of the team were Steve 53rd, Peter 70th, Neil 73rd and Craig 81st. Czechs got 1st and 3rd and Spain 2nd in the individual running.

Most of the venues had beats that did not fish well, with some not giving up a fish for the whole 5 session and others that consistently give good results. Even on the lakes if you drew a top beat you could expect up to 10 fish and a bottom beat 1 or 2. So overall the compittion was about what your draw was.

Saying that the Czechs and French and Spain made the best of what they drew and did well consistently.

Today we pack up and head of to Wales for the Commonwealths. Our first practise is on Wednesday so we have a couple of days to get there, catch up with you from there.
