DAY 1 REPOR - 14 September 2006

Well the first day is finally done, and we did OK.

On the first session we did not place that well. Steve caught 6 at the lake and that placed him in the middle of his group as the top lake beats fished better with up to 15 fish caught. Craig got 2 on his lake morning session. Neil got one on the Ceria as did a lot of people but his was smaller so he was placed down the pack. John landed 1 on the Alva (dropped a couple at the net as he had to use #18 dries). Unfortunately Peter blanked on the Mondego as did 10 others in his group.

So after the first session NZ were placed 18th.

The second session was a lot better with all of our team getting fish and most placing in the top ten of their groups. It poured with rain, yes after having a drought for a few months it had to rain when we had a fishing competition on.

Peter got 3 fish to place 6th. John got 2 fish, Neil got 2 and Craig got 6 on the lake. Steve did well to get a fish on the Modego after being asked to leave the water by the controller as the river was rising. The controller thought it was unsafe, its a big river but quite slow so after animated discussion we carried on fishing and got a extra time allowance.

So after two sessions we are placed 11th out of 21 counties and are ahead of Australia, England and the USA.

We have one session this morning and every one has a bye this afternoon. Looks like we could have some more rain today.

Regards
Paul Dewar
Team Captain
