UPDATE FROM PORTUGA - 12 September 2006
Hi from Portugal
Sorry to be so long reporting, could not get any Internet access.
We got here okay, lost some gear on London to Portugal flight but thankfully found it again. Its very hot here, got up to 41 one day.
We have had 5 days of practise with our guide and ourselves and have only caught 2 trout between all the team guys. Got a lot of white fish but these don“t count.
All the rivers are quite differant. The Mondago is feed from dams and is quite big and slow and is very warm at present. It will be hard to fish.
The Alva is like some of the small New Zealand rivers with some runs and pools and weed beds and overhanging trees. We saw quite a few trout in the competition section so it should be good fishing.
The Ceria is a small mountain stream (so small you can jump across in places) its very skinny water and clear so it will be hard and get harder as the comp goes on.
The 2 lakes a both water reservoirs and quite featureless but we are assured that they have good fish numbers in them so should be okay. We fished the practise lake yesterday and caught a few small fish, most not counters.
Today is the last day of official practise and the guys are getting their gear ready and tieing those last minute flies.
The comp starts tommorrow and I will try to send in a report each day if I can get on the one computer at the hotel.
